Hello, I am King, a user of Discord.

I’m starting this petition to prevent something concerning that may happen later this year. As some of you may know, Discord is planning a public IPO soon, and many users are rightfully worried.

If Discord goes public, it risks becoming controlled by corporations instead of the community. Features we love, like sending pictures, could end up behind paywalls. Apps and bots we enjoy might be removed as the platform becomes manipulated and reshaped by those driven purely by profit.

We won’t be able to enjoy Discord the same way. I’ve talked about this in various servers, and I genuinely worry for the core idea of what Discord stands for, a space where people can roleplay, hang out with friends, and share discussions freely.

Here’s what I mean: Discord was built as a global chat platform and has grown to over 100 million users. It’s become a haven for people looking to escape the chaos of everyday life and just be happy. But now, the newly appointed CEO has a background at Activision Blizzard, companies often criticized for their money-grabbing tactics. If Discord goes public, it could fall under the influence of investors who care more about profit than the people who rely on the platform for community and joy.

So, I’m asking you, while Discord is still private and before the new CEO fully takes over, this is our chance to speak up and take action.
