Bring Back Adam Clifford – A Vital Voice for Tasmanian Hockey

The Mercury needs to reinstate Adam Clifford as its hockey writer. His deep knowledge, passion, and decades of experience have been sorely missed. Since his departure, it has become even more evident how valuable his coverage was—not just for keeping our sport in the spotlight, but for uniting the hockey community across Tasmania.

For over 22 years, Adam provided consistent, high-quality reporting on our local competitions, national achievements, and grassroots efforts. His perspective as both a former player and a seasoned journalist brought authenticity and insight that simply hasn’t been matched. The generic, infrequent, and often inaccurate coverage that has followed in his absence is doing a disservice to the game and its athletes.

Hockey deserves better. Tasmania’s players, coaches, and fans deserve to see their stories told with respect and skill. Adam Clifford has always delivered that—and it’s time we brought him back.
