Keep Bright Horizons New Beckenham open
The Issue
Last Friday evening, many parents in our community were shocked and dismayed to receive a letter informing us that Bright Horizons New Beckenham nursery is set to close on or around 9th December. We understand that this is due to the land it is on being sold by HSBC to Crystal Palace Football Club.
As parents, we know firsthand the struggle to secure reliable and quality childcare, and this sudden announcement deeply impacts us all. The short notice leaves us scrambling to find alternative care options for our children in an area where demand for nursery spaces far exceeds supply and waiting lists stretch on indefinitely.
Bright Horizons New Beckenham has been a cornerstone for so many families in our area. It doesn’t just serve as a place for our children to be looked after while we work; it’s a nurturing environment where young minds are developed and cherished. The dedicated staff provide outstanding care, ensuring our children’s safety, learning, and happiness. With this closure, our children will lose a vital piece of their early childhood, and we risk the disruption of their daily routine.
Moreover, the sudden unavailability of these childcare places will affect our ability to work, fulfill commitments, and manage our daily lives efficiently. The ripple effect touches not just us directly, but our employers, co-workers, and the community at large. Decent childcare is fundamental to supporting robust family and career dynamics in our society.
We call on HSBC, Crystal Palace Football Club and Bright Horizons to work together to keep Bright Horizons New Beckenham operating, either through a new longer-term lease or, at minimum, an extension until the end of the 2026/27 academic year while a sustainable solution is found.
