Many high school students discovered their love for music at a young age through band and orchestra classes offered in elementary schools. These classes not only spark a lifelong passion for music but also significantly enhance cognitive development and social skills. Without early exposure, students face an irreplaceable gap in their formative years. This time is critical for exploring core interests and discovering talents.

The district has reinstated band and orchestra classes for the 2026-2027 school year, but this aid does not guarantee the continuance of these classes in the following years, nor does it guarantee that these students will keep their beloved teachers.

Music programs cultivate an inclusive school culture where students of diverse backgrounds can collaborate and express themselves freely, especially those who may not have access to music education outside of school. The presence of these programs reduces dropout rates and keeps students engaged in academic pursuits. It offers them a safe, supportive environment to explore their creativity and develop their self-esteem.

We must work together to ensure that these vital programs remain in schools indefinitely, to provide a nurturing ground for the next generation of artists, thinkers, and leaders. 

We urge the school district to prioritize the sustenance of music programs. They are an investment in our children's future success and fulfillment.
