Our combined online and paper petitions are approaching 1000. Tomorrow we have a meeting with councillors and staff from the Town Council and it would be grand to let them know that there are more than 1000 people against this plan for parking on Asker Meadows. So please keep spreading the word. There are signs that the council is back-tracking on the scale of the proposal. They have also arranged for a slight extension to time for comments. The closing date is now 26th May. But the application is still lodged in its unchanged form and at the moment that is what will be decided by the District planners at the end of this month. Tomorrow we're keen to discuss what the plans and objectives are for Asker Meadows as a Nature Reserve, and the council's wider strategy for managing visitors to the town. We're less keen to go into the detail of the application and how it can be tweaked to get it passed. Please let us know if there are any comments you'd like us to make on your behalf. We'd also like to invite you to send suggestions about how to manage visitors to Bridport. This may involve possible sites for additional parking, but also ways visitors can be welcomed into town without the need to drive into it. You may think the town has too many visitors or not enough. Please let us know. We've held off sending out info on how to object to the proposal on 'planning grounds'. If the application is withdrawn and re-submitted in a different form, the process of commenting may have to begin again. It's still valuable to comment now, but we are well aware of the tactic of 'objection fatigue' in getting unpopular applications through.
