Keep 11th Street Safe

The Issue

The safety improvements on 11th Street have made it safer and more accessible for everyone—children walking to school, families biking together, and seniors crossing the street. But now, some want to roll them back. Let’s speak up and protect our streets!

In 2022, the City of Houston implemented critical safety improvements along 11th Street, including protected bike lanes, safer pedestrian crossings, and traffic-calming measures. These changes were designed to save lives, improve mobility, and make our neighborhoods more livable.

Since then, 11th Street has become a safer corridor for everyone—drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. Families use it to get to school, seniors feel more confident walking to nearby parks, and children are biking more than ever. These changes are working.

But now, these safety improvements are under threat. Some are calling for their removal, citing concerns that ignore the real benefits these upgrades have brought to our community.

We, the undersigned, call on city leaders to:

  • Keep the 11th Street safety improvements in place.
  • Continue supporting Vision Zero and Houston’s commitment to safer streets.
  • Prioritize the lives and safety of all road users—especially our most vulnerable.

Removing these improvements would be a step backward for Houston. Let's not undo the progress we've made.
