Chiquita Canyon Landfill has allowed toxic gasses to form in their facility & trespass into neighboring communities for over a year. They've created PERPETUAL suffering for thousands of innocent citizens in Val Verde, Castaic & Valencia, CA.

The landfill's corporate owner, Waste Connections Inc., has FAILED to extinguish the 250 degree chemical reaction, and their Chiquita Canyon Community Relief Program has FAILED to effectively mitigate the harm to all residents.

Given the landfill's failures, it is now up to LOS ANGELES COUNTY - specifically, LA Supervisor, Kathryn Barger - to step-in and declare a "State of Emergency". Declaring a "State of Emergency" would help residents relocate, provide disaster assistance to victims, and open up additional state resources to extinguish the toxic reaction.

Since at least early 2023, local employees & residents, including our children, have been living in a constant state of harm. Thousands are being continuously exposed to elevated levels of benzyne & hydrogen sulfide. Residents are experiencing burning eyes, bloody noses, headaches, fatigue, GI issues, rapid heartbeat, tremors and many other uncomfortable symptoms. CDC states that long-term exposure to benzene can cause harmful blood diseases including leukemia & anemia as well as reproductive harm.

Further, the AQMD (Air Quality Management District) has received an average of 2,000 complaints each month in 2024 from concerned citizens suffering from the landfill’s toxic odors.

To End the Continuous & Needless Suffering of YOUR Citizens, we CALL ON YOU, LA COUNTY SUPERVISOR KATHRYN BARGER , to:

 1. Declare a LOCAL State of Emergency AND

 2. Request the California Office of Emergency Services to Declare a State of Emergency
