Stop extermination of trees in Mississauga for real estate and commercial purposes!
The Issue
Brief Summary: I have been living in Mississauga for 14 years. Ever since then there have been many beautiful wood lots and forests near the schools, particularly near my middle school at the Churchill Meadows area. However as the years have gone on, mostly in the past 5 years, more and more of the trees and wildlife seems to disappear as more and more houses have been built. By signing this petition we can save the few forests we have in this area and we can encourage more environmentally friendly practices during the construction and development into the construction practices.
The problem: The area of Churchill Meadows in Mississauga has become very much in demand with many schools, parks, and grocery stores all around and inside the area. This has caused an enormous amount of forestry and wetlands to be cut down destroying and harming various ecosystems leaving only a very few left. Various properties such as the O'Connor area was a large wood lot, in which 75% of it was cut down to create a children's park and soccer fields. Even worse 30% of the part they cut down is fenced and is filled with nothing but dirt as there is no grass.
After multiple strikes through near by middle school in order to preserve the wood lot, it was taken down with only a small portion remaining, and another portion taken down, now fenced as said before, for no real purpose.
Also, the amount of townhouses has wildly increased as a result, a large forest near tenth line was needed to be taken down. Same story as the previous one, a portion was taken down, leaving half of it preserved while some parts are fenced and completely empty.
The solution: We need to stand up for the remaining forestry and ecosystems we have in the Churchill Meadows area. We need them preserved and need the city of Mississauga to take care of them.
The proposal is that ALL the remaining woodlots, and forests, should be visited regularly by workers for the city of Mississauga, and to be checked and regulated upon them. Cleaning garbage and making sure that the natural habitats are protected for the future.
[This will be emailed and sent to the city of Mississauga in order to make sure these remaining ecosystems are well preserved so keep signing and make a difference change.org!]
