This is a petition to end Ontario's Pit bull ban, for over a decade the Government of Ontario have placed a ban on the Pit bull breed due to their apparent "viciousness." It's been far too long that these dogs have had to suffer from something that majority are innocent of. Before you go and start bashing my opinion just take a second to read through the facts I have put forward for you. Did you know that Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds have an equal or an even greater chance of biting than Pit bulls? Or that the majority of Pit bull attacks that are by the breed were trained BY THEIR OWNERS to fight? The Pit bull breed are paying the price for their owners or trainers own enjoyment of dog fighting with Pit bulls being the dog of choice. Did you know that in the United States about 1.2 million dogs are euthanized each year, and about 800,000 thousand to 1 million of those are Pit bulls! In Canada about 600,000 dogs are euthanized each year and about half or more of those are Pit bulls too! The most depressing fact about that is that most of those Pit bulls are euthanized simply because they are Pit bulls. Cesar Milan, one of North America's most famous and intelligent dog behaviorist wrote a fantastic article about the Pit bull breed and it's bad PR (https://www.cesarsway.com/about-dogs/pit-bulls/how-did-pit-bulls-get-a-bad-rap) I encourage you to take some time and educate yourself by reading it but for now I will highlight the key point he states in the article. One of the key points is the fact about Dog fighting made a comeback and the Pit bull breed was the dog of choice (dog fighting is illegal in North America), they are also known for being guard dogs for drug dealers and gangs. He agree's it's not the dog it's the owner who misuses them, which says something. Again before you go spitting out the facts and statistics about Pit bull attacks take some time and educate yourself about the breed and I hope you realize that it is the owner who should be punished for the misusing of the breed not the breed itself. Pit bulls are trained to fight and attack by their owners, of course majority of owners do not misuse the breed in that fashion but where do you hear about that in the press? I bet you didn't hear about the Pit bull that saved an 8 year old boy from a deadly bee attack, or the Pit bull who saved a baby as well as a family from a robber, and what about this plot twist- A Pit bull saved a 5 year old girl who got bit by a Labrador Retriever. Try searching Pit bull saves family, or child and you'll see the results that pop up. All dogs are fully capable of being trained to attack or bite like some Pit bulls are trained to do, it just takes the owner to take action to train them. Don't allow an innocent breed to be punished because of some owners actions. Please sign my Petition and help end this breed's bad reputation.
