The building at the centre of this issue — 401 Richmond St. W. — was successful in appealing its tax bill, and will receive refunds back to 2013. The building was initially assessed at $57.6 million in 2016, which has now been reduced to $33.2 million. The provincial government says it will work with Toronto to create a new property tax category giving arts and culture hubs a break.
