Success at the Toronto Heritage Preservation Board

On January 24 the Toronto Heritage Preservation Board approved a staff report recommending full heritage designation for the building at 95 St. Joseph Street in the heart of the St Mike's Campus. This matter will need to go to City Council for final approval.

The Chair of the Heritage Preservation Board remarked that she had never seen so many submissions from the public in support of a heritage designation. Huge thanks to the Community who voiced their appreciation of the heritage of this building and their concern about its possible loss.  Architectural Conservancy Ontario and the Canadian Centre for Architecture also joined us in expressing opposition to the development proposal.

Despite the likely Heritage Approval, the developer believes that they can still forge ahead with demolition of the majority of the site and construction of a 39 storey-tower in its place. The fight is not over, and we will continue to keep you informed.
