There are many people in the equestrian sport who participate in the "Big Lick". The Big Lick is a sport in which people put 5+ pound blocks on their hoofs. To keep the blocks on they tie chains around their ankles in order to make sure they stay on. Soring has been made illegal, yet people still do it. Rubbing toxic chemicals on the horses legs. This causes them to overreact to the blocks and give them an unnatural gait. Harsh bits (long shanks) are used on the horses, getting their mouths yanked, just so these people can say they won. 

This needs to stop. The horses cannot speak for themselves, so we need to do it for them. How can we do this? We can make punsihments harsh for the people who do this. We can make the shows illegal. Right now only soring is illegal, but soring isn't the only problem. Many of these horses are started as young as 1 year old under saddle. Horses should never be started before the age of 3.  

You may be wondering why I care so much about this. The reason why I care is because these horses are getting taken advantage of. These horses know that if they do one thing wrong they will get beat by the rider. They can't speak up for themselves. Horses are the most loving animals you will ever meet. They are very forving and honest. You can hurt a horse and they would still love you. 

If we lose this fight, horses will keep getting hurt and suffering both emotionally and physically. Search up the big lick on google, you will see how horrible this sport is.
