Hello,

It has been a while and I feel it was a good time to give you an update on Karan’s court case.

Six of the seven youth charged have had their charges dropped to manslaughter. This means that, IF they are found guilty, the maximum sentence they will get is 3 years, two of which would be in a youth detention facility and one year out on probation. Two years is all they will get for taking the life of an innocent youth as he stood waiting at the bus stop to go home.

This is not a justice system built to rectify the consequences of the crime, it is a slap-on-the-wrist system designed to get criminals back on the streets as soon as possible.

I will be reading out victim impact statements for each of the accused during their sentence hearings. I will also be reading out a COMMUNITY IMPACT STATEMENT which allows your voices to be heard. If you would like to contribute your words to this community impact statement, please send the message to JusticeforKaran@gmail.com.  In it, you must address one or both of the following questions: 1) How did this crime affect you and/or your family? 2) How did your life change because of this crime?

Please indicate if you would like your message to be directed at a certain individual or to all of the youth charged.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. Thank you for your continued messages of comfort and hope. It is exactly what we need to hear at this time.
