A new bill on Cancer has been filed by Rep. Wes Gatchalian (1st District -Valenzuela). We laud the good Congressman for this initiative. There are already over 20 bills on cancer that has been filed, and the Gatchalian HB 5763 focuses on the creation of a National Cancer Control Committee - which aims to have a unified national program towards cancer management and research as well as to regulate the practice of oncology. This is a big step toward achieving true freedom from cancer. But the battle is not yet over! In the coming days, other versions may be filed, and we will welcome every version, as this is an indication that there are more cancer advocates in Congress. Our hopes are high that the current Congress will come up with a consolidated version - covering the whole cancer continuum - from awareness, prevention, screening, treatment, pallative care and survivorship. So please keep on pushing! Let us keep on getting more signatures, to let Congress know we are watching. The critical point is for Congress to schedule a hearing - for any of the cancer bills, so that all points related to cancer prevention and management will be discussed, leading to the passage of an integrated national cancer act.
