It's Happening - You Made A Difference!

I am writing to say THANK YOU. You made a difference!

You signed our petition calling on the EPA to clean up one of the most dangerous Superfund Sites located in Houston, Texas, the San Jacinto River Waste Pits. Let me tell you what has happened since then.

In all, we gathered 55,000 petition signatures.  That got the EPA’s attention. Where most Superfund Sites get bogged down in red tape, the public attention that you helped focus on this site ensured the steady progress that has brought us this success.

Today it is my pleasure to tell you that cleanup of the southern waste pit has started.  But, this isn’t the end of the process. It will take time to remove all of the dioxin and other toxic chemicals from the southern pit. We will continue to demand transparency through a safe, effective removal, and push the EPA to force the responsible parties to clean up the second part of the site, the northern waste pit.

We are not done yet, but this is a huge step forward and we want to thank you for your hard work in helping make it happen.
