Victory!! EPA Announces REMOVAL of Pits

Jackie MedcalfHouston, TX, United States
Oct 27, 2017
The EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt recently signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund Site. He signed off on removal of 212,000 cubic yards of contaminated material from the San Jacinto River. The dioxin and heavy metal contaminated material will be isolated from the river, dewatered, excavated, and transported to a permanent, permitted facility. THANK YOU for your participation in this process and your help in this victory! We have achieved a huge milestone and the battle was won but the war will continue. The parties responsible for the Pits, are already fighting back in disagreement with Administrator Pruitt's ROD. Our Executive Director, Jackie Young, met with Mr. Pruitt and other officials this month and Mr. Pruitt is standing firm that the Waste Pits will be removed. In November the EPA will enter into a 60-day negotiation period with the responsible parties. Let's stay engaged and make sure the EPA holds their feet to the fire!
