For those wondering why anyone needs a handgun in this country I would like to share my thoughts. The majority of Municipalities are surrounded and neighbouring with wildlife and their natural habitats. There are a lot of people who share a backyard with animals like wolves, coyotes, bears, cougars and many others. Now imagine you are a grandparent or someone of a late age living in a rural area like such, who does not have the physical strength to carry a rifle or shotgun for long distances or sustain the pressure from recoil of said guns. What are you going to do when you want to take your granddaughter hiking and show her the beauty of this country. People don't like to take risks with the ones they love and they should be able to feel secure and confident that they are prepared for an encounter with a potentially deadly animal. Of course no one wants that but when it comes down to it you have to do what is necessary to protect your family from harms way. It is not right to jeopardize the safety of these people for political gains. Obtaining a handgun legally is already quite difficult for most people but it could be a lifesaver for some.
