We have exponentially accelerating the development of ALS adult stem cell therapy in a preliminary/pilot sense by demonstrating that a completely novel source of stem cells are capable of neural differentiation into neurons, motor neurons, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and that transplanted neurons become myelinated. This is of course performed using Kullervo's novel MRIgFUS technology. Compared to other research from around the world - the distinctiveness of Dr. Erwin’s work stems from the possible ability to use autologous cells (derived from the patient themselves) that will not require immunosuppression AND the patient could possibly receive multiple stem cell transplants-as you know at the present these transplants are performed under very invasive surgical conditions and can only be done once. We are successfully hitting 100% of our milestones! April 2016: We have more than enough disease mice bred and now simply ageing to be ready for the transplants. End of May! April 2016: Obtained the CDSC (cartilage-derived stem cells) from the ‘selected’ mice. We have HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of stem-cells growing like crazy! These cells incorporate a green fluorescent protein such that they glow green under a certain frequency of ultraviolet light-this way we can track them once they are transplanted. April 2016: Amplified the CDSC’s and began the neural differentiation in anticipation to be ready for end May, Dr. Kullervo Hynynen’s team and the MRI-guided focused ultrasound transplant of the stem-cells. April 2016: Dr. Mark Erwin presented a 15-minute talk at the upcoming ALS Canada research meeting on April 30th. Even though we have been disappointed by how they treated us we still want to get the message out. Sooner or later, ALS Canada will be left with no choice but to start investing in stem-cell research. Currently ALS Canada has refused to help us! March 2016: We have now bred about 150 of the disease carrying mice also in preparation for the transplants so everything is on time. March 2016: Genotyping of mice completed, confirmed which ones carry the defective gene. Those ‘selected’ will be used during the MRI transplant at the end of May. March 2016: Dr. Mark Erwin presented his research at the University of Toronto “Neuromuscular Day” Friday, March 4th-raising awareness! Doctors and researchers are leading the charge to find a cure, but are in desperate need of funding.
