Los firmantes somos personas comprometidas con los derechos humanos y la justicia como pilares de la gran democracia americana.

Basados en ello y en nuestro derecho a la libre expresión, exigimos que se respete a los migrantes en el territorio continental de los Estados Unidos; a sus derechos y a su integridad. La deportación y la separación de familias no puede continuar; el atropello y el asesinato no se pueden tolerar.

Los funcionarios del ICE nos acechan; hoy pueden tocar a cualquiera a su puerta, invadir la intimidad y la santidad del hogar de nuestras familias, de las escuelas de nuestros hijos.

Cada día hay una nueva historia de abusos y arrestos violentos y arbitrarios contra personas decentes y trabajadoras que hemos emigrado a este gran país. Cada día se separa a un padre o a una madre de sus hijos y cada día nuestros niños viven aterrorizados ante la brutalidad con que se maltratan a sus familiares o amigos.

La mayoría vinimos a América para cumplir el sueño americano y en especial los cubanos que llegamos a este gran país por un futuro libre de opresión, donde pudiéramos trabajar, crecer y proteger a nuestras familias, aportar al sostenimiento y crecimiento de la mejor nación del mundo.

Sin embargo, hoy enfrentamos un futuro incierto y un sistema que nos criminaliza, mientras los políticos hacen silencio, esos mismos que prometieron defender a nuestras comunidades hispanas y especialmente a la diáspora cubanoamericana que tanto los hemos apoyado.

Distinguido señor Marco Rubio: nuestras familias llegaron aquí tal como lo hizo la suya. ¿Por qué no podemos tener la misma oportunidad que los suyos tuvieron?

Congresistas, senadores: ¿Ustedes seguirán inmóviles? ¿Defenderán a su comunidad o la traicionarán? No terminen siendo cómplices de este atropello.

EXIGIMOS:

1. Que se detengan el acecho y los abusos del ice hacia nuestra comunidad, nuestros familiares y amigos.
2. Que se liberen todos los injustamente detenidos que no tengan un record criminal.
3. Que se permita el reencuentro de los padres y madres con sus hijos, los cuales fueron deportados; y que estos tengan procesos migratorios justos y con garantías.
4. Que se respeten los procesos legales de asilo y refugio político que están en curso, así como se aplique de inmediato la Ley de Ajuste Cubano.
5. Que nuestros legisladores federales María Elvira Salazar, Carlos Giménez, Mario Diaz-Balard, Ted Cruz y el Secretario de Estado Marco Rubio, se abstengan de apoyar cualquier iniciativa para derogar o modificar la Ley de Ajuste Cubano. Que en cambio se pronuncien y tomen acción urgente para proteger y defender a nuestra comunidad, y para que el gobierno federal cese la situación que estamos sufriendo.

¿POR QUE ES URGENTE?

• Todas las personas de bien y trabajadoras tienen derecho a vivir el sueño americano.
• La inacción de los políticos y legisladores será una traición a sus votantes. Mientras nuestras familias sufren y la vida de sus votantes y familiares están en riesgo, su respuesta no se puede limitar a los discursos y la contemplación, que los termina haciendo cómplices y verdugos de su propia gente.
• Nuestros hijos nacieron en Estados Unidos, son ciudadanos americanos. No los separen de sus padres.

Today they are strangers, tomorrow it could be you or someone close to you!

We, the undersigned, are individuals committed to human rights and justice as pillars of America's great democracy.

Based on this commitment and our right to free expression, we demand respect for migrants in the continental United States; for their rights and their integrity. Deportation and the separation of families cannot continue; abuse and murder cannot be tolerated.

ICE officials are stalking us; today they can knock on anyone's door, invading the privacy and sanctity of our families' homes and our children's schools.

Every day there is a new story of abuse and violent and arbitrary arrests against decent and hardworking people, who have immigrated to this great country. Every day a father or mother is separated from their children, and every day our children live in terror of the brutality with which their relatives and friends are mistreated.

Most of us came to America to fulfill the American Dream, especially Cubans who came to this great country seeking a future free from oppression, where we could work, grow, and protect our families, contributing to the support and growth of the greatest nation in the world.

However, today we face an uncertain future and a system that criminalizes us, while politicians remain silent—those same politicians who promised to defend our Hispanic communities, and especially the Cuban-American diaspora, which we have supported so much.

Distinguished Mr. Marco Rubio: our families arrived here just as yours did. Why can't we have the same opportunity yours had?

Congressmen, senators: Will you remain unmoved? Will you defend your community or betray it? Do not become complicit in this outrage.

Therefore, we demand:

- An end to the harassment and abuses by ICE against our community, our families, and friends.

- The release of all those unjustly detained who do not have a criminal record.

- That parents be allowed to reunite with their deported children, and that these children receive fair and guaranteed immigration processes.

- That the ongoing legal processes for asylum and political refuge be respected, and that the Cuban Adjustment Act be applied immediately.

- That our federal legislators María Elvira Salazar, Carlos Giménez, Mario Díaz-Balard, Ted Cruz, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio refrain from supporting any initiative to repeal or modify the Cuban Adjustment Act. Instead, they should speak out and take urgent action to protect and defend our community, and that the federal government end the situation we are enduring.

Why is this urgent?

All good, hardworking people have the right to live the American Dream.

Inaction by politicians and legislators will be a betrayal of their voters. While our families suffer and the lives of their constituents and their families are at risk, their response cannot be limited to speeches and contemplation, which only makes them complicit in and perpetrators against their own people.

Our children were born in the United States; they are American citizens. Do not separate them from their parents.
