The Issue

Little Collins is an Irish company, formed, owned and operated from County Galway who specialise in providing high-quality legal EU hemp and CBD (cannabidiol) products:

"Little Collins CBD Dispensary is devoted to health, sustainability and fairness. In a mass produced age, where it seems almost everything is manufactured, we believe people deserve choice. Our mission is to supply you the very best, natural CBD products on the market, with an emphasis on the raw form and our house-made range. At all times, we strive to be 100% organic and green across our organisation. Founded by husband and wife team, JP O'Brien and Ide Clancy, Little Collins brings elements of Ireland and Australia together to form a tech-savvy, forward-thinking, plant-based business."

Little Collins CBD with shops in Galway's and Kilkenny specialise in EU Legal Hemp & CBD products. Their business has been targeted by repeated raids by the Garda Síochána 5 times in the last few months. Each time they have taken their stock and questioned staff. Other health shops that sell CBD products have not been targeted in this way.

Legal EU Hemp & CBD products are one that contain 0.2% THC or less, recently this is increased to 0.3% THC. Ireland's current drugs act states that any trace of THC makes CBD illegal.

Kanavape case 2020

The CJEU noted that CBD “does not appear to have any psychotropic effect or any harmful effect on human health on the basis of available scientific data.”......The CJEU further found that it would be ‘contrary to the purpose and general spirit’ of the Single Convention to include CBD under the definition of drugs, given that CBD is not known to have psychoactive effects.

The current Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 needs to be amended to reflect the EU stance on the THC levels that are permitted. The failure to meet EU standards are adding additional hardship , stress and suffering on businesses already hit hard by COVID.

We are petitioning Minister for Justice and the Minister for Health to address this issue ASAP. People cannot wait any longer.
