PEARL Hand-Delivers Petition Seeking Justice for Tamil Genocide in Geneva

Dear Signatories,

Yesterday, PEARL met with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva during the UN’s 42nd session of the Human Rights Council to advocate for justice and accountability in Sri Lanka and deliver our petition. Altogether, we collected 6,251 signatures from the Tamil community, allies, members of civil society organizations, and elected officials. We would like to thank you for showing your support in our call for the UN HRC to (1) formally recognize Tamil genocide and (2) support the creation of alternative, parallel criminal justice measures.

PEARL will continue to engage with the OHCHR and UN Human Rights Council to promote UN-level recognition of the Tamil genocide and an end to the ongoing human rights abuses on the island, 10 years after the UN’s systemic failure to prevent or stop Sri Lanka’s mass atrocities against the Tamil people.

Thank you again for your meaningful support. To keep up with PEARL please visit our website: www.pearlaction.org and follow our social media accounts (T:@PEARLAlert, I:@Pearl_Action, F:@PEARLAction).
