Our family’s lives were forever altered when my brother lost his life due to an underage driver driving illegally, while also navigating a complex intersection (27th Street SW 27th Ave) carelessly and illegally, with no punishment after being the cause of a human’s death. His untimely and tragic demise is a stark reminder of the apparent danger lurking on the roads of our rapidly growing city. Our city has been expanding rapidly both in terms of population and traffic volume yet there is a dire need for more attention and vigilance towards ensuring effective road safety measures. Fatalities like those of my brother are avoidable with proper planning and utilization of technology advancements in the field of traffic management.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2019 alone, 36,096 lives were lost in road crashes in the U.S. This speaks volumes about the gravity and urgency of the issue at hand. It is high time we turn to the potential of advanced technologies not only to address the congestion caused by our city's growth but also to prevent road fatalities.

We need to leverage the power of technology: upgrades in signaling systems, smart traffic management solutions, effective intersection designs aided by computer simulations. These can drastically reduce traffic dilemmas and offer safer, more navigable roads to prevent accidents. We demand the commitment of the city's officials to make our roads safer and utilize the potential advancements that technology brings.
