Wangwang was tortured for over an hour before she was set on fire. She had the chance to run and save herself from the horror being inflicted on her — but her puppies were being killed in front of her, and she refused to leave them. Even after being burned and mutilated, she used her final strength to drag her body to her dead puppy for one last kiss goodbye. We are calling on Lululemon to cut ties with 廣東瑞源科技股份有限公司 (Guangdong Ruiyuan Technology Co., Ltd.), a supplier based in Jieyang, China, and to publicly commit to removing Jieyang from its supply chain.

Jieyang (揭阳) is not simply the place where this tragedy happened. Local authorities have actively shielded those responsible for what happened to Wangwang, while cracking down on the people demanding justice. They have gone so far as to claim that the movement for Wangwang was "instigated by foreign spies." Jieyang is also a region notorious for its dog meat trade — making this government response an especially serious issue for animal advocates everywhere.

As consumers and Canadians, we believe companies have a responsibility to consider not just labor and environmental standards in their supply chains, but also the broader human rights and animal welfare record of the regions they do business in. By continuing to source from Jieyang, Lululemon risks lending economic legitimacy to a local government that is actively suppressing those seeking justice.

We are asking Lululemon to:

• Suspend and ultimately terminate sourcing from Jieyang 
• Issue a public statement affirming that Lululemon's supply chain decisions will reflect these human rights and animal welfare concerns.

Silencing individual voices is easy for a local government. Silencing the collective pressure of international consumers and the brands they support is not. We urge Lululemon — a company that markets itself on values of wellbeing and integrity — to act accordingly.
