Dear Councillor Ausma Malik,

Today I am very disappointed in the City of Toronto regarding the serious issue of exterminators killing animals in our downtown communities.  The exterminator Johnny the Critter Gitter decided to kill two coyotes who were a couple and probably had puppies.  You can find my petition about this cruel decision here.

This step of killing coyotes was probably the intent of the city all along, considering they hired a hunter/trapper.  It was not a necessary step, because the Toronto Wildlife Centre was planning on treating the coyotes for mange, and the problem was never these two coyotes. Killing ignored effective and humane protocols, including the removal of rodenticide bait boxes and humane attempts to treat the coyotes for rodenticide caused mange, ignoring safe and humane considerations, while instead trying to force coyotes out of a community, which doesn’t do anything but increase the coyote population.  With the breeding pair gone, there is plenty of room for several more coyotes to move in come October.  By next spring, there will be plenty more coyotes born to several mating pairs (since the main breeding pair is killed), thus repeating and increasing the process and padding the Critter Gitter’s pockets.
Over the past several months, the city has, at the request of a coyote hate group, to hire the trapper Johnny the Critter Gitter, continue to use rodenticide bait, and to pass off the exterminator Johnny the Critter Gitter as a coyote expert with all the tools needed to take a very backwards approach of killing.  The information gathered here is that Toronto failed these coyotes and has set a very bad example of what not to do in the case of pet attacks.

Feel free to reach out to me any time to discuss how to stop this cycle of killing.

Thank you,
