Justice for the 29: Expose the Chinook ZD576 Cover-up

The Issue

Twenty-nine people boarded Chinook ZD576 on 2 June 1994. All of them died.

Thirty-one years later, we - their families - still have no answers.

We have been denied truth, transparency, and justice by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Memorial to 29 people killed on ZD576

Our loved ones were forced to board an RAF helicopter with fatal software flaws that MoD test engineers had deemed “positively dangerous” and “not to be relied upon in any way whatsoever.”

We know key evidence was withheld or ignored in previous investigations. Former ministers say they were misled by the MoD and doubt airworthiness issues were investigated properly.

Last year, we found out that critical documents relating to the crash have been unjustly sealed by the UK Government for 100 years. We formed the Chinook Justice Campaign.

Now the MoD has dismissed our demands to hold a full, judge-led public inquiry to establish the truth.

Like many other families - from Hillsborough to sub-postmasters, the infected blood scandal to nuclear veterans, MoD helicopter cancer victims and now Afghan families in a massive data leak cover-up, we should not have to fight tooth and nail for truth, transparency and justice from the Government.

We demand that the Prime Minister:

  •  Overturn the MoD’s decision to ignore our calls for a full judge-led public inquiry.
  • Release all the documents immediately.
  •  Introduce a legal ‘Duty of Candour’ on all public bodies, including the MoD, so that no family ever has to battle for the truth again.

Our loved ones served their country. They deserve honesty; we deserve justice.

Add your name and help us break three decades of silence.
