Justice for Terry Baralt: Hold the LA County DA Accountable for Violating Victims’ Rights

Justice for Terry Baralt: Hold the LA County DA Accountable for Violating Victims’ Rights
The Issue
The Menendez family has suffered enough. Now, their 85-year-old aunt, Terry Baralt, is in critical condition—hospitalized after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office showed graphic crime scene photos in court without warning.
Terry wasn’t just a bystander. She’s the sister of José Menendez, who—along with his wife Kitty—was killed in 1989 by their sons, Erik and Lyle. The case became one of the most infamous trials in American history, with the brothers later sentenced to life in prison. Now, decades later, the family is revisiting their trauma during a re-sentencing effort.
Terry was present during the re-sentencing hearing when prosecutors unexpectedly displayed graphic images of her brother’s lifeless body. The family says the trauma of that moment caused her collapse.
This is a clear violation of Marsy’s Law, which requires victims and their families to be treated with dignity and respect. The DA’s office ignored that. They offered no notice, no compassion, and no accountability.
We’re calling for:
- A full investigation into the DA’s handling of this case
- Disciplinary action for any officials who violated Marsy’s Law
- Immediate safeguards to prevent this from ever happening again
Sign now to demand justice for Terry—and to make sure no family is ever retraumatized like this again.
