Alain Berset called to intercede with Emmanuel Macron in favor of Tariq Ramadan
250 people sent an open letter to Alain Berset, President of the Swiss confederation yesterday.
They called upon him to invoke Tariq Ramadan’s right to the presumption of innocence while in pre-trial detention in France. This right, according to them, is not being respected.
Monday morning, the President of the Confederation Alain Berset received a surprising mail. It was an open letter, signed by nearly 250 Swiss citizens, asking him to "intercede in favour of Tariq Ramadan" with the French authorities.
Alain Berset indeed met French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday in Paris.
The signatories evoke the right to the presumption of innocence and to "receive appropriate health care". Also, they are denouncing the conditions of incarceration.
Among the known signatories of this missive are Jean and Erica Ziegler, and to a much lesser extent Patrick Flury, of the Inter-union Civil Service Cartel and Sabine Tiguemounine, municipal councillor in Meyrin.
People from the entire spectrum of career paths, "less than half of whom are Muslim," says [Tariq Ramadan’s] brother Bilal.

Il s’agit d’une lettre ouverte, signée par près de 250 citoyens suisses, lui demandant «d’intercéder en faveur de Tariq Ramadan» auprès des autorités françaises. Alain Berset va en effet rencontrer le président français Emmanuel Macron mercredi à Paris. Ils rappellent le droit à la présomption d’innocence ainsi que celui de «recevoir des soins de santé adéquats». Ce sont les conditions d’incarcération qu’ils dénoncent.
Toujours en détention préventive
Depuis février dernier, l’islamologue suisse est toujours en détention préventive en France, suite à trois plaintes pour viol. Une quatrième femme a déposé plainte contre lui en Suisse pour ces mêmes faits.

Parmi les signataires connus de cette missive, on trouve Jean et Erica Ziegler, et dans une bien moindre mesure Patrick Flury, du Cartel intersyndical de la fonction publique et Sabine Tiguemounine, conseillère municipale à Meyrin. Des gens de tous horizons professionnels, «dont moins de la moitié sont de confession musulmane», avance son frère Bilal.
