Petition updateJustice for TalonLEGAL SUPPORT FOR TALON'S JUSTICE CAMPAIGN

Getting justice for a baby in the wake of her suspected domestic violence murder is proving exceedingly hard.

Kayla Hehir begged to meet with Victorian Attorney-General Sonya Kilkenny, the Victorian Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Natalie Hutchins , the Victorian Police and Victims Minister Anthony Carbines and the Victorian Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush. ALL OF THEM SAID NO!

Talon Jai-Grace Hehir was only eight months old. Surely meeting with her mum is no hard ask?

Moving Talon's case forward needs legal expertise – knowledge I just do not have.
But Lauren Cassimatis has that in spades. She is the principal lawyer with Melbourne firm Gallant Law, and this queen has committed herself to helping get an inquest into Kelly's death and to have Victoria Police's Homicide Squad re-visit the investigation. And Lauren is doing all of this pro bono!

She’s already met with Kayla and has mapped out a plan that gives us the best chance to see progress.

Lauren is also helping me with the investigation in Kelly Williams (Duffy)

“As a criminal defence lawyer and a sister and mother myself, I can understand the pain and heartache Paula and Kayla are feeling,” Lauren says.

“I can see the gaps in the justice system in terms of preventing violent crimes and addressing the underlying causes, through necessary rehabilitative and support services.

“It was a no brainer to support Sherele in her mission to bring some peace to Paula, Kayla and other grieving families.”

Right now, it is early days in our battle to get justice, so Lauren’s guidance is essential.
She says the Coroner’s Court plays a pivotal role in the justice system, especially for families seeking closure.

“The Coroner’s Court provides essential insights that can lead to preventing future tragedies,” Lauren explains.

“It gives families a voice in understanding the circumstances surrounding their tragedy.

“The findings of the Coroner’s Court can shine a light on systemic issues and ensure that necessary changes are made to save lives.”
