Petition Update: Someone Is Finally Listening

Today, I received the kind of call I have been waiting and fighting for.

I was contacted by an investigator with the Citizen Police Review Board (CPRB) regarding Shawn’s case.

The investigator took the time to listen to the full story surrounding Shawn’s death, including the concerns, unanswered questions, contradictions, and information I have uncovered throughout my own investigation. She did not simply hear a summary. She listened to the story in its entirety.

After speaking with me, she informed me that she will be bringing the matter before the CPRB and moving forward with an investigation. She also told me that she intends to work toward getting the answers I have been asking for. 

I provided her with the information and evidence I have collected so far, including Shawn’s death certificate, photographs, video evidence, documentation, the petition, and information I received from people who discussed Shawn’s situation online or reached out to me directly.

For more than a year, I have been doing everything I could to keep Shawn’s name, his story, and the unanswered questions surrounding his death from being forgotten.

I have contacted agencies.

I have contacted elected officials.

I have requested records.

I have searched for witnesses.

I have reviewed documents and timelines.

I have followed leads.

And I have continued asking one simple question:

What really happened to Shawn?

Today, for the first time, I have an investigator outside of our family who has heard the entire story and is now taking steps to independently look into it.

That does not mean we have all the answers yet.

It does not mean that any particular conclusion has been reached.

It means the questions are finally being taken forward for review.

And that matters.

I am asking that the investigation be allowed to follow the evidence wherever it leads. I am not asking anyone to simply accept my conclusions. I am asking for the unanswered questions to be examined, the available evidence to be reviewed, and the truth to be established.

I want to thank every person who has signed this petition, shared Shawn’s story, donated, reached out with information, supported me when I was exhausted, or simply refused to let his name disappear.

We have not reached the finish line.

But after everything it has taken to get here, I can finally say this:

Someone is listening. Someone is looking. And Shawn’s story is still being heard.
