As I continue seeking answers about my son, Shawn Lee Fortune, who died at Pittsburgh Job Corps on February 26, 2025, another tragedy has unfolded at a different Job Corps campus.
Reports surrounding the recent death of a student at Turner Job Corps in Georgia, Justice Kai James, have prompted students to speak publicly about their concerns. Social media posts and text messages circulating among students describe fear, distrust, and allegations that deserve to be investigated. While those claims have not been independently verified, they demonstrate that students themselves are asking difficult questions about safety on campus.
Although every case is unique and should be investigated based on its own evidence, there are troubling similarities that deserve public attention:
* Students raising concerns before and after a death.
* Families searching for answers.
* Questions about whether policies were followed.
* Concerns about the adequacy and timing of the response when a student was in distress.
* Ongoing requests for records to understand what actually happened.
In Shawn's case, I have spent more than a year obtaining records from multiple agencies, including the U.S. Department of Labor, law enforcement, the Medical Examiner, EMS, and other public agencies. Throughout that process, I have encountered inconsistencies, delays, and unanswered questions that continue to fuel my search for the truth.
I am not asking the public to assume these cases are connected. I am asking that each death involving a Job Corps student receive a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation.
Every family deserves clear answers.
Every student deserves a safe environment.
And every death deserves accountability where the evidence supports it.
My fight is not only for Shawn. It is for every family that may one day find themselves searching for answers after losing a child entrusted to the care of an institution.

I have 2 other videos of him during regular hours in the lounge and during intake, if anyone is interested. If you notice the videos become heavily redacted. Now I am appealing to see if they can take some of that away so I can see more.
