Petition updateJustice for Shawn Fortune: Investigate His Death at Pittsburgh Job CorpsSECOND FEDERAL AGENCY Denies Responsibility for Job Corps — DOJ Refuses to Act

Just minutes after receiving a letter from the U.S. Department of Education saying they have no jurisdiction over Job Corps, I received another notice—this time from the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.

And once again… I was denied.

Despite my son’s suspicious death in Job Corps custody.

Despite a neck contusion, multiple fentanyls in his system, and staff negligence.

Despite inconsistencies across his EMS, autopsy, and toxicology reports.

They said they reviewed my case but would not take any further action.

Not because it lacked merit.

But because they simply can’t take on every case.

They offered me a link to legal aid and wished me the best.

This marks the second federal agency that has shrugged their shoulders at the death of a young man who was in federal care. So once again I ask:

Who protects our children when they die in government custody?

Who investigates when Job Corps gets it wrong?

Who fights for Black families when the system won’t?

I’ll tell you who: WE DO.

That’s why I need your help now more than ever.

We are being shown in real time how the system avoids accountability—even when the signs of failure are obvious. But if we keep applying pressure—if we keep building support—they won’t be able to ignore us much longer.

🖊️ Please sign and share the petition. This is how we make noise.
