- On Wednesday, Tara and Kathleen delivered the Change.org petition (all 300 pages) to Murdoch University Chancellor Gary Smith.
The huge sign you can see in the photo contains all 28,000+ names on the petition.
The university still has yet to even acknowledge the public outcry over their decision to sue a whistleblower.
This is a reminder to Murdoch that the world is watching what they do next. - Visiting Professor Robert Cribb dramatically severed ties with Murdoch Uni last week. Many Australians have expressed their thanks and admiration to Professor Cribb for his principled action.
- Last Thursday in Education Estimates, Senator Mehreen Faruqi asked the tertiary education regulator TEQSA to confirm they had requested information from Murdoch University (mentioned in the university's cross-claim against Gerd, which says they ‘incurred significant operational costs’), following the Four Corners program. (See page 66 of the PDF)
- The Board of the Australasian Colloid and Interface Society (ACIS) issued a letter of support addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Murdoch University, demanding cessation of their punitive legal action against Gerd
- The Centre for Public Integrity has called for public servants to be legally required to speak up about misconduct, as part of a set of recommendations to strengthen whistleblower protection.
Professor AJ Brown (one of Australia’s leading integrity experts) remarked on recent Australian Federal Police raids on journalists in Australia, “These events confirmed, more dramatically than before, that alongside all our trends towards more open and accountable government, we have also experienced powerful counter-trends that undermine those advances, increasingly threatening both the health of our democracy and its long-held reputation.”
