I wanted to share a full update with everyone supporting my petition and let you know what has been happening behind the scenes.

Since starting Justice for Lewis Penfold Roche – Answers and Change for Every Family, I have been contacting organisations, national policing bodies and politicians to get my six points heard and push for improvements for families.

There has been some really encouraging progress.

National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC)

On 28 October, I had a Teams meeting with Alan from the NPCC.

We discussed my six campaign points, and Alan agreed with the improvements I am calling for.

He explained the national work already taking place around missing people, involving Strategic and Tactical Missing Persons Leads across police forces.

We also discussed how my experiences as Lewis's mum could help inform wider discussions, support other families and contribute to national improvements.

Alan welcomed further contact and exploring ways to support the campaign and help ensure my voice is heard.

Missing People

I also had a meeting with Elliot Lubel and Sam Roberts from Missing People.

They were incredibly welcoming, patient and supportive. They helped me understand the different organisations and support available and provided several useful contacts.

They also congratulated me on securing a meeting with Alan from the NPCC and receiving a response, recognising the importance of having both organisations involved.

An important development – proposed reform bill

One of the most encouraging parts of my discussions with all was talking about the proposed reform bill expected to go before Parliament next year.

We discussed my six campaign points and the possibility of putting them forward as part of the discussions around the bill Next year

There was also discussion about involving me, my experiences and my voice as Lewis's mum.

This is something I feel strongly about. I want the experiences of families to be heard, not just discussed on paper. I want my voice to help highlight what families need and what must improve.

The possibility of the NPCC and Missing People both supporting these conversations is very encouraging.

Nothing has been formally agreed or finalised yet, but I am hopeful about what these discussions could lead to.

Other organisations contacted and progress

- College of Policing: My enquiry about national guidance and improvements has been referred to the relevant team. I am awaiting a further response.

- NPoCC: My correspondence was forwarded to the National Lead for Missing Persons for consideration.

- IOPC: I received a response explaining their remit and advice to contact my MP about national changes. I have replied.

- All-Party Parliamentary Group on Missing Children and Adults: Awaiting a response.

- Andy Burnham: Awaiting a response.

- Chris McDonald MP: Awaiting a response to my letter asking for support for national improvements and parliamentary action.

- The Katie Trust: I have been invited to make contact to arrange a discussion.

What am I campaigning for?

My six points are simple:

1. Proper searches and investigations.

2. Keep families informed.

3. Listen to families.

4. Give families answers.

5. Independent reviews when needed.

6. Better support for families.

I started this campaign because I am Lewis's mum, and I know how important it is for families to feel listened to, supported and kept informed.

I don't want other families to feel they have to fight alone to get answers.

I know change takes time, but I am determined to keep pushing, keep speaking up and make sure these issues are not forgotten.

We have now reached 200 petition signatures!
