EMERGENCY UPDATE: We won the extension! Now we need your help to break the financial wall.

Dear Supporters,

Because of your incredible, ongoing solidarity, we have just forced a major breakthrough in the fight for my son, Jowell Travis Le Gendre.

On Monday, July 20, 2026, it was revealed that April Dawn Morgan Huff is the President of the Wise County Bar Association and was appointed in late 2024. If you remember my May 2024 update, I shared that I filed a FORMAL complaint with the Virginia Bar Association (VSB Docket: 24-REI-131918) advising of blatant misconduct surrounding the handling of my Wise County Certificate of Administration.

On Monday, I immediately filed copies of my VSB Formal Complaint Form and VSB Response Letter with both the Virginia Court of Appeals and the US Court of Appeals 4th Circuit, advising of the conflict of interest, drawing a DIRECT correlation with the local attorney “stand down” addressed in my previous filings.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, The Virginia Court of Appeals reviewed our filings, recognized our extreme diligence, and officially issued an Emergency Order granting us an extension! The state can no longer use a hyper-technical signature deadline to silently dismiss Jowell's case today. We now have a secure legal window to keep his appeals alive.

But we have hit a steep financial wall.

Independent, outside appellate law firms are willing to step in, sign our pre-written 55-page brief, and completely bypass the local Wise County bar association's conflict of interest. However, because this is a complex custody-death case, these firms require an immediate minimum retainer of $15,000 upfront and bill at $300 to $400 per hour.

I have proven that I can out-legislate state actors in court on my own, but I cannot fight this massive financial barrier alone. I have maxed out every personal resource over the last three years to keep this fight alive.

Today, on the exact date the state expected us to default, I am launching our official Legal Defense & Trial Fund to raise the capital needed to retain independent outside counsel, fund forensic experts, cover lodging and our 7-8 hour travel costs back to the trial courts upon a successful remand.

State actors counted on our financial exhaustion to bury what happened to Jowell at Red Onion State Prison. Let’s show them that our community's demand for accountability is louder than their pockets.

Thank you from the absolute core of my heart.

With justice and blessings,

Jeannette Le Gendre
