Johnny was my brother, he died under police custody. We don’t believe their narrative!

John “Johnny” Pantoja died in police custody on June 17, 2022, at California State Prison, Sacramento (New Folsom). His death was officially ruled a suicide by Officials, but the circumstances surrounding it raise serious questions about neglect, abuse, misconduct, and potential fabrication of the official story. Officials at CSP Sacramento told his family multiple  stories of how he died. But they never mentioned the events of June 16th:

On June 16, 2022, our family discovered that Johnny sought medical attention in the morning, visiting the prison medical facility because he was not feeling well. Later that afternoon, we have reasons to believe that he reportedly requested help again but was in placed in a cage as he pleaded to see medical staff, then was sent back to his cell without proper care.
There is evidence to believe that Johnny was denied medical help in the days leading up to his death, and official claims that he was checked shortly before dying are disputed. Johnny had recently spoken to us, letting us know he was excited to see us and celebrate his birthday. He died on Father’s Day weekend. Though Officials told us “no autopsy was going to be conducted”- a week later, one was conducted by the order of Officials, violating his body post death-head to toe. Parts of his body were removed and never placed back. We demand  JUSTICE! A toxicology was conducted that showed high levels of medication, the medication in his system was never mentioned to us. Medication that only staff was able to administer given the location of where he was at.

We believe the official story surrounding Johnny’s death was fabricated. Multiple inconsistencies exist between official reports, his treatment, and the circumstances in the days leading up to his death. My brother was in solitary housing unit also known as the SHU. Requests for medical help were ignored, officials did not follow protocol, official checks were NOT conducted, and the handling of his body and evidence raises serious questions. Not to mention, his body showed signs of abuse, trauma and neglect.  Further raising serious concerns about what really happened to my beloved brother.

His life mattered, we seek JUSTICE, demand truth, transparency, and accountability. Enough is enough!

It has been three years of fighting for answers.
We will not accept official narratives that do not reflect the truth of Johnny’s treatment and death.

We deserve to know the truth of what really happened to my precious brother.

There will be no peace until there is JUSTICE
