Over the years the life of children, friends and parents we know have been cruelly cut short by a HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER.  The current penalty for HIT-AND-RUN fatalities is “UP TO 7 YEARS” in prison . You have to be kidding, because this means the perpetrator can receive a very light sentence, or serve no time at all, if they have a good lawyer or sympathetic judge.  

This pales in comparison to the pain, suffering, and loss experienced by the families and friends of the victims.  In addition, only about 10% of HIT-AND-RUN DRIVERS are ever caught. This needs to be addressed as well.  

It's high time we sought real JUSTICE for the victims and their families for the severity of these crimes through our legal system. By increasing the penalty for HIT-AND-RUN offenses, we can deter such acts and show that we value human lives, especially our children and seniors. 

We are asking our elected officials in New York, to amend the laws and significantly increase the punishment for HIT-AND-RUN DRIVERS involved in fatalities or serious injuries. 

Let’s take action together by signing this petition and raising our voices for justice and safer roads. Let's make sure no more lives are lost or ruined, without an increase of penalties for breaking the law.
