Grameenphone, majority-owned by Telenor—a company controlled by the Norwegian government—paid the capital amount owed for the years 2010–2012 in 2015, but has deliberately withheld the penalty amount for over 15 years. This penalty was lawfully imposed due to the late payment of the 5% profit share, and yet to this day, the affected employees have not received what is rightfully theirs. A company with state ownership like Telenor cannot ignore this injustice. This prolonged non-payment is not just financial negligence—it is a betrayal of trust and a denial of justice, and it calls for accountability at both corporate and governmental levels.

Instead of resolving the issue, GP and authorities responded with repression. On February 25, 2025, peaceful protesters — all former employees — were met with violence. Police used water cannons, physically abused female protesters, and filed false criminal cases against 29 demonstrators.

We say enough is enough.    

 

Why this matters:

Grameenphone workers are entitled to the 5% profit share under Bangladesh labor law since 2010. Only the base amount for 2010–2012 has been paid, excluding penalties or dues for later years. Meanwhile, trade union rights have been systematically undermined. When workers peacefully protested this injustice, they were met with police brutality. Women were harassed, protesters arrested — all while the company remained silent. 

We Demand:

• Immediate payment of all 5% profit share dues, with penalties and interest
• Public apology and justice for the violence against protesters, especially women.
• Independent investigation into Grameenphone’s ongoing labor rights violations

• Accountability from Telenor and oversight from both Norwegian and Bangladeshi authorities

• Protection of labor rights, freedom of association, and peaceful protest 

In addition, we demand full compensation for the employees and former staff who were unlawfully detained, harassed, and subjected to physical and mental trauma during peaceful protests. The violent suppression of their legitimate demands must be acknowledged and redressed immediately.  

This is more than a financial dispute — it’s a human rights crisis. If a multinational brand like Telenor enables repression abroad, its silence becomes complicity. We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with the victims. We call for justice. We call for accountability.

গ্রামীণফোন ও টেলিনর—একটি অসমাপ্ত হিসাব

 

গ্রামীণফোন, যা নরওয়ের সরকার-নিয়ন্ত্রিত টেলিনর গ্রুপের মালিকানাধীন, ২০১০–২০১২ সালের ৫% লাভের মূল টাকা ২০১৫ সালে কর্মীদের পরিশোধ করেছিল। কিন্তু সেই বিলম্বিত পরিশোধের জন্য যে জরিমানা এবং ইন্টারেস্ট আইন অনুযায়ী ধার্য ছিল, তা আজ পর্যন্ত দেয়নি। পেরিয়ে গেছে ১৫ বছর, তবুও সেই প্রাপ্য অর্থ এখনো আটকে আছে।

একটি রাষ্ট্র-মালিকানাধীন কোম্পানির এমন আচরণ শুধু অবহেলা নয়, এটি বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা ও ন্যায়বিচারের সরাসরি লঙ্ঘন। এর জন্য কর্পোরেট এবং সরকারি—উভয় স্তরে জবাবদিহি প্রয়োজন।

 

কিন্তু সমস্যার সমাধান না করে, গ্রামীণফোন ও সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ বেছে নিয়েছে দমনপীড়নের পথ।

২০২৫ সালের ২৫ ফেব্রুয়ারি, যখন প্রাক্তন কর্মীরা শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে তাঁদের প্রাপ্য দাবিতে জিপি হাউজের সামনে জড়ো হন, তখন তাঁদের ওপর নেমে আসে নির্মম পুলিশি হামলা।

জলকামান, লাঠিচার্জ, নারী কর্মীদের শারীরিকভাবে লাঞ্ছিত করা, এবং ২৯ জনের নামে মিথ্যা মামলা—এই ছিল কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতিক্রিয়া।

 

আমরা বলছি—এই অন্যায় আর চলতে পারে না।

 

কেন এটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ?

 

২০১০ সাল থেকে বাংলাদেশের শ্রম আইনে গ্রামীণফোন কর্মীরা কোম্পানির ৫% লাভের অংশ পাওয়ার অধিকারী।

কিন্তু এখন পর্যন্ত শুধু ২০১০–২০১২ সালের মূল টাকা পরিশোধ করা হয়েছে। বাকি বছরের টাকা, জরিমানা, কিংবা ইন্টারেস্ট-এর কোনো হিসেবই নেই।

 

এছাড়া, শ্রমিকদের সংগঠিত হওয়ার অধিকার নিয়মিতভাবে বাধাগ্রস্ত করা হয়েছে।

যখন কর্মীরা শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে রাস্তায় নামলেন, তখন তাঁদের ওপর চালানো হলো রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতার নির্মম অত্যাচার। নারী কর্মীদের হেনস্তা করা হলো, অনেককে গ্রেফতার করা হলো—আর কোম্পানি পুরো ব্যাপারে নিশ্চুপ রইল।

 

আমাদের দাবি:

• ৫% লাভের পুরো বকেয়া, জরিমানা ও ইন্টারেস্টসহ অবিলম্বে পরিশোধ
• নারীসহ সকল প্রতিবাদকারীর ওপর হওয়া সহিংসতার জন্য প্রকাশ্য ক্ষমা ও বিচার
• গ্রামীণফোনের শ্রম অধিকারের লঙ্ঘনের স্বাধীন তদন্ত
  টেলিনরের জবাবদিহিতা নিশ্চিত করা এবং নরওয়েজিয়ান ও বাংলাদেশি কর্তৃপক্ষের যথাযথ নজরদারি
• শ্রম অধিকার, সংগঠন গঠনের স্বাধীনতা ও শান্তিপূর্ণ প্রতিবাদের সাংবিধানিক সুরক্ষা

 

সাথে আমরা আরও দাবি জানাচ্ছি—

• যেসব কর্মী ও প্রাক্তন কর্মীরা এই শান্তিপূর্ণ আন্দোলনের সময় বেআইনিভাবে গ্রেফতার, হেনস্তা এবং শারীরিক ও মানসিক নির্যাতনের শিকার হয়েছেন, তাঁদের যথাযথ ক্ষতিপূরণ দিতে হবে।
• এই ন্যায্য দাবির বিপরীতে যে সহিংসতা চালানো হয়েছে, সেটি সরকার ও কোম্পানিকে স্বীকার করতে হবে এবং অবিলম্বে প্রতিকার দিতে হবে।

 

এটা শুধু আর্থিক হিসাবের ব্যাপার নয়—এটা মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের একটি স্পষ্ট উদাহরণ।

 

যদি টেলিনরের মতো আন্তর্জাতিক প্রতিষ্ঠান এই অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা না নিয়ে চুপ থাকে, তাহলে তারা নিজেরাও এই অপরাধের অংশীদার হয়ে পড়ে।

আমরা, যারা এই পিটিশনে স্বাক্ষর করছি, নির্যাতিত কর্মীদের পাশে আছি।

আমরা চাই ন্যায়বিচার। আমরা চাই জবাবদিহিতা।
