The Issue

We, the undersigned, demand immediate action and accountability following the tragic death of Faith Johnson on February 22, 2025. Faith, a student with Cockayne Syndrome requiring specialized medical care, passed away due to complications stemming from a severe incident of negligence at NREP on February 18, 2025.

Faith relied on a GJ tube for feeding, and despite numerous Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and clear instructions from her family, her tube was forcibly pulled out at the school. This act of negligence, combined with a subsequent lack of immediate response, accountability, and proper medical attention, directly resulted in her death.

This devastating loss reveals a systemic failure within Frederick Public Schools to protect vulnerable students. We demand the following:

1. **Immediate Termination:**

The immediate termination and removal from all contact with children of all staff members directly involved in the incident and any subsequent failures in Faith's care.

2. **Full and Transparent Investigation:**

A thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Faith's death.

3. **Policy Reform:**

A comprehensive review and reform of school policies and procedures regarding the care of students with medical needs, ensuring strict adherence to IEPs and parental instructions.

4. **Transparency and Accountability:**

Public release of the investigation findings and a commitment to ongoing transparency in matters of student safety.

5. **Grief Support:**

That the school provide the family with any and all video footage relating to the incident, and offer grief support.

We, the community of Frederick County, will not tolerate the loss of another child due to negligence. We demand safe schools for all children and justice for Faith.

We, the undersigned, call upon Frederick Public Schools to take immediate action to address this tragedy and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
