We are writing to provide you with an update regarding the Johnson family and the petition demanding justice for Faith Johnson.
Superintendent Dr. Hummer has contacted the Johnson family via email to express condolences for the tragic loss of Faith. While we appreciate the superintendent's acknowledgment of the family's grief, we are deeply disappointed to report that the email completely ignored the core demands of our petition.
Specifically, the superintendent's response failed to address:
- The demand for an immediate and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Faith Johnson’s death.
- The demand for the termination of staff members involved in the incident.
- The demand for policy reform to protect vulnerable students.
- The demand for transparency and accountability from Frederick Public Schools.
- The demand for the video footage and grief support.
In short, the superintendent's response offered sympathy but no concrete action or commitment to addressing the systemic failures that led to Faith Johnson’s tragic passing.
Adding to this update, we want to inform you that the Johnson family went live on Facebook today for the first time since Faith’s passing. They gave a deeply emotional speech, sharing their grief and their unwavering commitment to their community. Their strength throughout this unimaginable tragedy is truly uplifting, as they continue to pour into their community despite their own profound grief. We want to assure you that we will not be deterred. We will continue to press for answers and accountability. The Johnson family, along with the 4,481 of you who signed the petition, deserve nothing less.
We are currently preparing a formal response, planning a community meeting, and a candlelight vigil. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress.
