The Issue

The family of Ethan Bennett—and every family in Michigan who believes in justice—is being profoundly impacted by the mishandling of this case. For 20 months, I, Ethan’s mother, have been fighting for the truth surrounding my son’s tragic death. Instead of cooperation and compassion, I’ve been met with silence, obstruction, and incomplete records from the Inkster Police Department. This is not just about one grieving mother—it’s about every family’s right to truth, transparency, and accountability when a life is lost under questionable circumstances.

If this pattern of stonewalling and redaction continues, we risk allowing public institutions to operate without accountability. The failure to turn over critical evidence—911 calls, dash cam footage, surveillance video, fire reports, and more—not only obstructs justice for Ethan but sets a dangerous precedent that leaves every citizen vulnerable. If this can happen to my child, it can happen to yours. What’s at stake is not only justice for Ethan but the credibility of the systems meant to protect us all.

Twenty months is too long. My family—and this community—deserves answers. Withholding evidence, conflicting public statements, and a lack of transparency from Inkster Police demand immediate outside intervention. That’s why I’m calling for this case to be handed over to the Michigan State Police for a full and independent investigation. The time for silence is over. The time for justice is now. Please sign this petition to help us demand transparency, accountability, and the dignity Ethan deserved.
