The Issue
On August 20, 2025, Francisco Ortega threatened to choke, dismember, and “make disappear” Emmy — a beautiful Belgian Malinois entrusted to him by her previous owner.

The next day, August 21, Emmy’s lifeless body was discovered dumped near Krome Avenue and SW 136th Street in Redland, Florida.

Miami-Dade Animal Control recovered Emmy’s body, conducted an autopsy, and transferred the case to the State Attorney’s Office.

Yet despite:

Ortega’s documented threats
Video evidence of him dumping Emmy
Photographs and reports confirming the cruelty involved
➡️ No arrest or charges have been filed. Ortega continues to walk free.

 
Why This Matters
Animal cruelty is a felony in Florida. Delays like this are unacceptable and send the dangerous message that violence against animals will be tolerated.

Our Call to Action
We, the undersigned, call on the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and County Officials to:

✅ File charges immediately against Francisco Ortega for animal cruelty and related crimes.

✅ Provide transparency and regular updates to the community on the status of Emmy’s case.
