Request for an Independent Review of the Egypt vs. Argentina Round of 16 Match and Consideration of All Appropriate Remedies, Including a Rematch

 We, the undersigned supporters of football from around the world, respectfully call upon FIFA to conduct a full, transparent, and independent review of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match between Egypt and Argentina, played on July 7, 2026, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

This petition is not driven by disappointment alone. It is driven by the belief that every FIFA World Cup match must be officiated with consistency, fairness, and equal application of the Laws of the Game.

Throughout the match, Egypt was subjected to decisions that have raised serious questions about the consistency of the officiating and the application of the VAR protocol.

Earlier in the match, Egypt had a goal disallowed following a VAR review of a foul in the attacking phase. That decision had a direct impact on the scoreline and demonstrated that VAR was willing to intervene in the build-up to a goal.

The most controversial incident occurred in second-half stoppage time.

At approximately 91:39, the broadcast footage appears to show Argentina’s Julián Álvarez tapping Mohamed Salah’s leg as Salah drove toward the box, causing Salah to fall to the ground. Álvarez continued with the ball, no foul was awarded, and play was allowed to continue.

Argentina immediately launched a counterattack. The ball was recovered by Julián Álvarez, played forward to Lautaro Martínez, who then found Enzo Fernández, who scored at approximately 91:55, officially recorded as 90+2’, giving Argentina a 3–2 lead.

Immediately after Enzo Fernández’s goal was awarded, Egypt’s players, head coach Hossam Hassan, and the coaching staff surrounded referee François Letexier, urging him to review the earlier incident through VAR. No on-field review took place. During the protests, Egypt goalkeeping coach Saafan El-Sagheer was shown a red card, while Hossam Hassan received a yellow card.

These events have raised serious questions among millions of football supporters regarding the consistency of officiating, the application of the VAR protocol, and whether similar incidents were judged by the same standard during the same match.

If VAR intervened earlier in the match to overturn an Egypt goal because of a foul in the attacking phase, why was the stoppage-time incident that immediately preceded Argentina’s winning goal handled differently?

 Was the incident involving Mohamed Salah reviewed by the VAR officials?

 If it was reviewed, what information was communicated to the referee?

Why was no on-field review conducted before the winning goal was allowed to stand?

To protect the integrity of the FIFA World Cup, we respectfully request that FIFA:

• Release the complete VAR audio and communications relating to both incidents.

 • Publish the referee team’s explanation for both decisions.

• Conduct an independent review of the officiating and the application of the VAR protocol.

 • Determine whether the Laws of the Game and the VAR protocol were applied consistently throughout the match.

• If FIFA concludes that a significant officiating error or procedural failure materially affected the outcome of the match, consider every remedy available under the FIFA Regulations, including a replay of the match if permitted under those regulations.

This petition is not directed against Argentina, its players, or its supporters. The responsibility for officiating decisions rests solely with the match officials and the VAR team.

 Football belongs to everyone. Every nation, every player, and every supporter deserves confidence that the same rules are applied equally, regardless of the teams involved.

 When two decisive incidents appear to be treated differently within the same match, transparency is essential.

We respectfully ask FIFA to review this match, release its findings, answer these questions publicly, and take whatever action is necessary to protect the integrity, fairness, and credibility of the FIFA World Cup.

طلب إجراء مراجعة مستقلة لمباراة مصر والأرجنتين في دور الـ16 من كأس العالم، والنظر في جميع الإجراءات المناسبة، بما في ذلك إعادة المباراة

نحن، الموقعين أدناه من مشجعي كرة القدم حول العالم، نتقدم باحترام إلى الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (FIFA) بطلب إجراء مراجعة كاملة ومستقلة وشفافة لمباراة دور الـ16 من كأس العالم 2026 بين منتخب مصر ومنتخب الأرجنتين، والتي أُقيمت بتاريخ 7 يوليو 2026 على ملعب مرسيدس بنز بمدينة أتلانتا، ولاية جورجيا، الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

لا تنبع هذه العريضة من مجرد خيبة أمل بسبب نتيجة المباراة، بل من إيماننا بأن جميع مباريات كأس العالم يجب أن تُدار وفق أعلى معايير العدالة والاتساق والتطبيق المتساوي لقوانين اللعبة.

طوال المباراة، تعرض منتخب مصر لعدد من القرارات التحكيمية التي أثارت تساؤلات جدية حول مدى اتساق التحكيم وآلية تطبيق بروتوكول حكم الفيديو المساعد (VAR).

في وقت سابق من المباراة، تم إلغاء هدف لمنتخب مصر بعد مراجعة عبر تقنية VAR بسبب مخالفة في بداية الهجمة، وهو قرار كان له تأثير مباشر على مجريات اللقاء، وأثبت أن تقنية الفيديو كانت مستعدة للتدخل عند وجود مخالفة في بناء الهجمة المؤدية إلى هدف.

أما أكثر اللحظات إثارة للجدل فقد جاءت خلال الوقت بدل الضائع من الشوط الثاني.

عند الدقيقة 91:39 تقريبًا، يبدو من خلال لقطات البث التلفزيوني أن اللاعب الأرجنتيني خوليان ألفاريز قام بلمس ساق محمد صلاح، مما أدى إلى سقوطه على الأرض أثناء تقدمه نحو منطقة الجزاء. ورغم ذلك، لم يحتسب الحكم أي مخالفة، واستمر اللعب دون أي إيقاف.

وعلى الفور، شن المنتخب الأرجنتيني هجمة مرتدة سريعة، حيث استحوذ خوليان ألفاريز على الكرة، ثم مررها إلى لاوتارو مارتينيز، الذي هيأها إلى إنزو فرنانديز ليسجل هدف الفوز عند الدقيقة 91:55 تقريبًا، والمسجل رسميًا عند الدقيقة +90 الثانية، مانحًا الأرجنتين التقدم بنتيجة 3-2.

وفور احتساب الهدف، تجمع لاعبو منتخب مصر، إلى جانب المدير الفني حسام حسن وأعضاء الجهاز الفني، حول حكم المباراة فرانسوا ليتيكسييه، مطالبين بمراجعة اللقطة السابقة عبر تقنية VAR. إلا أنه لم يتم إجراء أي مراجعة ميدانية. وخلال الاحتجاجات، أشهر الحكم البطاقة الحمراء في وجه مدرب حراس المرمى صعفان الصغير، كما أنذر المدير الفني حسام حسن بالبطاقة الصفراء.

لقد أثارت هذه الأحداث تساؤلات جدية لدى ملايين من مشجعي كرة القدم حول العالم بشأن اتساق القرارات التحكيمية، وآلية تطبيق تقنية VAR، وما إذا كانت الحوادث المتشابهة قد خضعت للمعايير نفسها خلال المباراة ذاتها.

إذا كانت تقنية VAR قد تدخلت سابقًا لإلغاء هدف لمنتخب مصر بسبب مخالفة في بداية الهجمة، فلماذا لم يتم التعامل مع اللقطة التي سبقت مباشرة هدف الأرجنتين الحاسم بالطريقة نفسها؟

هل تمت مراجعة اللقطة المتعلقة بمحمد صلاح من قبل حكام تقنية VAR؟

وإذا تمت مراجعتها، فما هي المعلومات التي تم نقلها إلى حكم الساحة؟

ولماذا لم يتم إجراء مراجعة ميدانية قبل احتساب هدف الفوز؟

ومن أجل حماية نزاهة بطولة كأس العالم، فإننا نطالب الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم بما يلي:

• نشر التسجيل الكامل للمحادثات الصوتية بين حكم الساحة وحكام تقنية VAR المتعلقة بكلتا الحالتين.

• نشر التفسير الرسمي لطاقم التحكيم بشأن القرارين.

• إجراء مراجعة مستقلة لأداء طاقم التحكيم وآلية تطبيق بروتوكول تقنية VAR.

• التحقق مما إذا كانت قوانين اللعبة وبروتوكول تقنية VAR قد طُبقا بصورة متسقة طوال المباراة.

• إذا خلص الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم إلى أن خطأً تحكيميًا جسيمًا أو خللًا إجرائيًا أثر بصورة جوهرية على نتيجة المباراة، فإننا نطالب بالنظر في جميع الإجراءات التي تسمح بها لوائح FIFA، بما في ذلك إعادة المباراة إذا كانت اللوائح تجيز ذلك.

إن هذه العريضة ليست موجهة ضد منتخب الأرجنتين أو لاعبيه أو جماهيره، وإنما تنصب مسؤولية القرارات التحكيمية على طاقم التحكيم وحكام تقنية الفيديو المساعد.

إن كرة القدم ملك للجميع، ويستحق كل منتخب وكل لاعب وكل مشجع أن يثق بأن قوانين اللعبة تُطبق على الجميع بالعدل نفسه، دون تمييز بين أي منتخب وآخر.

وعندما يتم التعامل مع حالتين حاسمتين بطريقة مختلفة داخل المباراة نفسها، فإن الشفافية تصبح ضرورة لا خيارًا.

لذلك، فإننا نطالب الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم بمراجعة هذه المباراة، ونشر نتائج التحقيق، والإجابة عن هذه التساؤلات بصورة علنية، واتخاذ كل ما يلزم من إجراءات لحماية نزاهة ومصداقية بطولة كأس العالم
