PETITION TO REOPEN AND RETEST EVIDENCE IN THE UNSOLVED HOMICIDE CASE OF EDDIE GERARDO

To: The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Caledonia Police Department, and Racine County Sheriff's Office

We, the undersigned, stand with the Gerardo family and the community of Caledonia in demanding justice for Eddie Gerardo, a 22-year-old who was tragically murdered in 1988. Over 37 years have passed, and this case remains unsolved. Eddie's family still lives with the pain and unanswered questions, while vital evidence remains untested using today’s advanced DNA and forensic technology.

Recent discussions with the Gerardo family and members of the community have revealed the following critical concerns:

Evidence has not been re-tested with modern forensic techniques, despite advancements that could lead to new leads or a resolution.
There are discrepancies in official records, including the address listed on the death certificate, which does not match known locations within Caledonia.
A 191-page investigative report on alleged misconduct by a former investigator involved in this case has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the original investigation.
The community has not been granted access to key case details due to its open status, further obstructing public understanding and accountability.
We are calling for the following actions:

The immediate re-examination and DNA testing of all evidence in Eddie Gerardo’s case using current forensic technology.
A full independent review of the original investigation to assess any procedural errors or misconduct that may have affected the outcome.
Increased transparency from both the Caledonia Police Department and the Racine County Sheriff's Office regarding the current status of the case.
A commitment from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab to prioritize the retesting of physical evidence in this case.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Eddie Gerardo deserves the full power of modern science and a renewed, thorough investigation into his death. His family deserves closure, and our community deserves truth.
