Since launching this petition seeking #JusticeforDiesel, over 70,000 people have added their signature to support this campaign that calls for a strong sentence for the abandonment and death of Diesel, the dog. Several news agencies have covered this story, including CBC New Brunswick, Global News, CTV Atlantic and others.
It has also been reported that People's Alliance leader, Kris Austin has stated his public support for sending a strong message that animal abandonment should not be tolerated. On January 8th, 2019, Kyle Springer pled guilty to criminal code charges of willfully and without lawful excuse, causing suffering to a dog by leaving it unattended in his residence to starve to death on Jan. 15, 2015. Springer is scheduled to be sentenced on April 9th, 2019 at the Woodstock courthouse in New Brunswick. It is our hope for this case that it proceed as an indictable offense which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years and/or a fine not exceeding $10,000 in order to serve as a strong punishment but also deterrent to others. We are also requesting that sentencing against Mr. Springer include a lifetime ban on owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premises as any animal, including birds and reptiles.
