The Issue

We respectfully ask the Episcopal Diocese of California and Christ Church Sausalito to remove Rev. Chip Barker Larrimore from leadership at Christ Church Sausalito.

On December 9, 2025, my 30-year-old son, Darien Alexander McKay Reece, died inside Christ Church Sausalito.

Darien was a beloved son, brother, father, friend, and Marine. He leaves behind his young daughter, family, and people who loved him deeply.

Since Darien’s death, I have sought accountability and answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. I have filed a Title IV clergy misconduct complaint with the Episcopal Diocese of California and a civil lawsuit concerning the circumstances surrounding my son’s death. The appropriate authorities have been provided with evidence and information through those processes.

Despite these ongoing proceedings, Rev. Chip Barker Larrimore continues to serve as Rector of Christ Church Sausalito.

I have also been unable to simply return to this church—to mourn my son, pray for him, light a candle, or leave flowers without facing barriers surrounding access to the property.

I believe a grieving mother should be able to mourn her child in peace.

This petition is not asking the public to decide the outcome of the pending civil case or Title IV proceeding. Those matters should be decided through their proper processes.

We are asking the Episcopal Diocese of California and Christ Church to consider something different:

Is it appropriate for Rev. Barker Larrimore to continue leading this church while these serious matters remain unresolved and while the family of a man who died inside the church continues to experience profound grief and loss of trust?

We respectfully ask the Episcopal Diocese of California and Christ Church Sausalito to:

Remove Rev. Chip Barker Larrimore from his position as Rector of Christ Church Sausalito;
Or, at minimum, remove him from active leadership and pastoral responsibilities while the pending proceedings are resolved;
Recognize the profound impact Darien’s death has had on his family;
Provide Darien’s family with a peaceful and respectful way to mourn and pray at Christ Church; and
Demonstrate accountability, compassion, and transparency in addressing this situation.
Darien deserves to be remembered. His family deserves to grieve. And the church deserves leadership that has the trust of its community.

Please sign this petition if you believe the Episcopal Diocese of California and Christ Church should take action.

Justice for Darien. 💙
