First, I want to say thank you. Every signature, every share, every comment, and every message has helped keep this conversation alive. Because of your support, our petition has grown to more than 2,500 signatures, and our voices are being heard. Recently, Representative Tim Yocum met with INDOT to discuss the concerns surrounding State Road 163. While I appreciate that the meeting took place, the response we received leaves me with more questions than answers. INDOT once cited a lack of community concern. This petition proved that wasn’t true. Now the reasoning has shifted to crash history. What continues to concern me isn’t just the decision. It’s the lack of transparency behind it. INDOT acknowledges that this section of road has safety concerns. They acknowledge the tragic loss of Chase. They acknowledge the community’s concerns. Yet they still do not plan to install guardrails, and they have not provided the public with a timeline, a detailed engineering analysis, or an explanation of what specific criteria must be met before this dangerous stretch of road qualifies for additional protection. So, I’m asking for those answers. I have requested the engineering standards and requirements used to deny guardrails at this location, along with an explanation of why nearby sections of road have guardrails while this area does not. I will also be pursuing an independent engineering review so our community can better understand whether every reasonable safety option has truly been considered. This has never been about pointing fingers. It has always been about preventing another family from receiving the phone call that changed the Bennett family forever. Our community deserves more than, “Not at this time.” We deserve transparency. We deserve accountability. And we deserve to know what it will take to make this road safer before another life is lost. Please continue sharing this petition. Every new signature reminds our elected officials and INDOT that this community has not forgotten Chase, and we will continue advocating for meaningful action until we have answers. Thank you for standing with us.
