On August 20, 2019 Chandice Cochran left her home in Sutton WV, which she shared with her mother. She left a note saying she would be back later and not to worry she was in good hands. Other than a text later that night to her mom, this was the last communication anyone received from Chandice. It was later discovered she left her home with Kristopher Speas that day and traveled to Birch River WV.

When Chandice didnt return home and her mother was unable to contact her, she notified the police. After several interviews and investigations, it was found Chandice and Speas was last seen in Birch River. Speas was later arrested for charges unrelated to Chandices disappearance. The only information he has supplied to police to date is Chandice was last seen running  into the woods. His story has changed several times though. Numerous tips and stories have been reported but most of them have been dismissed due to inconsistency or invalid after police investigation. Chandice’s mother was given the opportunity to speak one on one with Speas. He sat silently and only offered the same information to Becky that “she ran into the woods and he lost her”. As he was leaving the room, Becky asked him if Chandice was still alive or “with us”, Speas turned and looked at her and shook his head No. 

With all the information and facts that there is foul play involved, Chandice’s case remains unsolved and growing cold. Becky asked the police about friends and family conducting a search party shortly after Chandice disappeared and she was instructed not to do any searches because they didnt want potential evidence being possibly jeopardized or ruined by the volunteers searching. Three years later and still no more answers or leads than when this nightmare started. 

This petition is being made in hopes that Chandices case is persued more aggressively. Kristopher Speas knows what happened that night and has been allowed to set in  jail for 3 years and not be held accountable for his involvement in Chandices disappearance. He is up for parole on September 1, 2022 on previous charges unrelated to Chandice’s disappearance . He may not be the person who ultimately caused her disappearance but he knows something about who is responsible, why else would he volunteer the information to Becky that he did? The WVSP have exhausted all their efforts into getting answers  and wanting answers for Becky. They continue to do what they can and follow up on leads received, but without tips and information they can only do so much.

We would like to see Chandices case given the attention it deserves and desperately needs in order to give her mother, family and friends the answers they deserve and seek justice for Chandice. Becky has endured so much the last 3 years not knowing where her only daughter is, if shes alive, hurt, or worse, deceased. No mother deserves that kind of inhumane torture! . Right now there are approximately 120 missing persons cases in WV…120!! This is a dramatically low rate compared to other states in the US and yet all 120 cases have become cold cases with no answers as to the whereabouts of these victims. 120 family members continue to search for their loved ones and beg and plead for answers just to be told theres nothing that can be done, its not against the law to go missing as an adult.
