Justice for California Violent Crime Survivors

The Issue

I, am a survivor of attempted murder in Riverside, California and am devastated to share my personal story and shed light on the lack of support and resources provided by victim services in our community. This petition aims to bring attention to the urgent need for change and demand justice for all victims who have been neglected in their time of greatest need.

My life was forever altered when I became a target of an attempted murder. The traumatic experience left me physically injured, emotionally scarred, and struggling to rebuild my shattered existence. In the aftermath, I turned to victim services with hope that they would provide the necessary support systems crucial for healing and recovery.

However, much to my dismay, I discovered that victim services in California are non-existent. Despite being a victim of such a heinous crime, I have received no assistance or guidance from these supposed pillars of support. The absence of resources has only exacerbated the pain and suffering endured by survivors like myself.

It is disheartening that victims are often left feeling abandoned by those who should be there unconditionally during their darkest hours. This neglect not only hinders our ability to heal but also perpetuates feelings of helplessness and isolation within our community.

To address this pressing issue effectively, we must rely on accurate facts and statistics:

1) According to recent reports from local law enforcement agencies*, there has been an alarming increase in violent crimes across Riverside County over the past few years.
2) Despite this rise in violent incidents, funding allocated towards victim services has remained stagnant or even decreased**.
3) The lack of adequate resources directly impacts survivors' access to counseling programs, legal aid services, medical assistance, financial support systems, and other vital tools required for recovery.

We cannot stand idly by while victims continue suffering due to systemic failures within our community's support infrastructure. It is crucial that we come together and demand immediate action from the relevant authorities to rectify this grave injustice.

Therefore, I urge you to sign this petition and join me in demanding that Riverside's victim services be reevaluated, strengthened, and provided with the necessary funding to adequately support victims of attempted murder. Together, we can ensure that no survivor is left behind, their voices unheard and their pain unacknowledged.

Let us stand united in seeking justice for all those who have been neglected by victim services. Sign this petition today and help pave the way for a brighter future where every survivor receives the care they deserve.

I ended an abusive relationship and became the victim of attempted murder. I was severely beaten in my head and strangled multiple times before I was able to flee for my life and run to neighbors to call 911. My perpetrator had a stand off with the Riverside SWAT team. The SWAT team blew out the windows of the home I lived in with tear gas bombs and entered the home to find my perpetrator deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The house was released to my perpetrator’s brother, Gilbert Bonales, while I was in the hospital. Gilbert immediately (within minutes of the coroner leaving) began looting the residence. He took almost everything from the home I shared with my perpetrator, and which mostly belonged to myself. A day later I returned home and called the police to meet me there as I could see Gilbert was still there with 10 vehicles looting the residence. The police contacted him and others, made them leave and returned the residence to me. The home still had blood and brain matter present on the walls and furniture, no windows and was covered in tear gas. I had nowhere else to go but this crime scene.

I contacted every office I could for help. I was given an advocate who I gave expressed authority to speak and act on my behalf. She never helped me and did not return any of my phone calls. I contacted victim services only to be treated like I do not matter and was hung up on repeatedly and never received a returned call.

I had to figure out how to get every single document submitted for my CALVCB as I knew that it was my only hope to get to a safe place. I had every document successfully submitted to CALVCB only to have victim services deny issuing me any resources. I was laughed at by victim services. I begged for crime scene cleanup, emergency relocation and income loss reimbursement. I have received nothing.

The city of Riverside put my perpetrator’s outstanding utility bills in my name. I have had no income for more than a year and applied for utility assistance only to be denied and had my water turned off because I could not pay my bills let alone my perpetrator’s who I was not married to.

I found out on November 3rd 2022 that I would receive zero resources and had zero hope of surviving this situation; I made all this public on YouTube, and I sent an email to Michael Hestrin, Patricia Cardenas and John Balla stating verbatim “I am going to hire a lawyer and sue the shit out of all of you”. A few hours later there was a knock at my door by two police officers. I opened the door, and I was assaulted while I was on a live phone call.

I was abducted from my home, (an extraordinary violation of my CIVIL RIGHTS!) my front door was left wide open for more than 48 hours, my two registered service dogs were let go out the front door. I was taken to a facility against my will where at least 8 people assaulted me, pushed me into a cement room, pulled my pants down and injected me with an unknown substance. I was explicitly informed that I had sent a threatening email and they needed to get to know me. I was locked in this cement room with no toilet and no bed. I knew that my two service dogs were at risk of being hit by a car, lost forever and whatever else could go wrong with dogs roaming loose. The next day I was let out of the room and put with violent men who put me in extreme danger. My pulse was taken, and it was over 100. I was in clear duress.

I was released within 60 hours. I was given a verbal apology from the doctor there who read my one sentence email and did not find it a valid reason for me to be there. I was told by my neighbors that on the second day they saw my front door wide open and my dogs loose in the neighborhood, so they called 911 knowing the previous incident at the home and being concerned for me. The police came and locked up my home and gave the keys to my neighbor; (That’s not legal.) My neighbors were able to search for my dogs and capture them.

Michael Hestrin had me abducted and tortured and he also has kept all my CALVCB resources. The abduction was carried out the week he was reelected, and this particular act is a clear violation of my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS and if nothing else evidence of his fraudulent activity! Riverside allowed one of my perpetrators Gilbert Bonales to evict me (not legal). I’m now homeless. I’ve lost everything. I’ve also been beaten, nearly murdered and treated like I deserved it by the State of California.
