Justice for bound and burned alive opossum in Charlotte, North Carolina

Justice for bound and burned alive opossum in Charlotte, North Carolina
Das Problem
To the Authorities of North Carolina,
We, the undersigned, demand justice for the opossum that was cruelly bound and burned alive for amusement by four men: Chris Hunter, Khalen Howard, Ahmad Slade, and Cameron Torrence.
This heinous act was committed at the end of April 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was filmed and posted online by the perpetrators themselves.
These individuals are currently free and show no remorse for their actions. On their Facebook profiles, they mock those who express compassion for the animal.
According to the North Carolina General Statutes, animal cruelty is clearly defined and includes intentional acts that cause pain, suffering, or death to an animal, such as torturing an animal. This particular act falls under "malicious animal cruelty," which is considered a serious offense and classified as a felony. Under N.C. Gen. Stat. 14-360 (b), maliciously torturing, mutilating, maiming, or killing an animal can lead to a Class H felony, punishable by 4 to 25 months in prison.
These four men, some of whom have prior convictions, pose a threat not only to animals but also to humans. We therefore demand the maximum penalty for Chris Hunter, Khalen Howard, Ahmad Slade, and Cameron Torrence.
Animal protection is one of the most important issues worldwide and should be taken seriously everywhere. Failure to uphold these laws should result in severe penalties. Animals need protection from individuals like these.
Let us stand together for the rights of animals and hold those who violate these laws accountable!
Thank you on behalf of all concerned and outraged citizens worldwide!
