The Issue

We are devastated and enraged by the brutal killing of Bolt, a friendly stray dog who was loved and cared for by students and staff at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Bolt was a harmless, affectionate pup who brought joy to many on campus. Yet, in a shocking and inhumane act, he was mercilessly beaten to death by NUST security guards a horrifying example of unchecked violence against voiceless animals.

This barbaric act cannot go unpunished. Bolt’s murder is not just about one dog; it reflects a dangerous culture of animal cruelty in institutions that should be teaching kindness and responsibility. Stray dogs deserve protection, not violence.

We demand immediate action from NUST and the relevant authorities:

  1. Hold Those Responsible Accountable – The security guards involved in Bolt’s murder must be identified, investigated, and prosecuted under animal cruelty laws.
  2. Implement Humane Stray Animal Policies – NUST must collaborate with animal welfare organizations for humane stray animal management, including sterilization and vaccination programs instead of violent removals.
  3. Ban Animal Cruelty in Universities – Higher education institutions must be safe spaces for all living beings. We demand strict anti-animal cruelty policies and training for staff and security personnel on ethical animal treatment.
  4. Strengthen Animal Protection Laws in Pakistan – This case must serve as a wake-up call for the government to enforce stricter laws against the abuse and killing of stray animals.
  5. Bolt’s life mattered. He was innocent, he was loved, and he deserved better. If we don’t raise our voices now, more helpless animals will suffer the same fate.

We urge all animal lovers, activists, and responsible citizens to sign this petition and demand justice for Bolt. Let’s ensure no other stray animal in Pakistan has to face such cruelty again.
